June 26, 2020 For some 50 years, Willie Nelson has been associated with country music and cannabis. But in addition to being America’s most beloved marijuana smoker, he’s also been a longtime friend of NORML and a personal friend of mine.
In my latest installment of the series, “A Founder Looks at 50,” I reflect upon my many decades-long relationship with country music legend Willie Nelson and his efforts to assist NORML in our mission to legalize marijuana.
To read past installments in this series, including reflections upon my longtime relationships with Hunter S. Thompson, Hugh Hefner, High Times Magazine founder Tom Forcade, and others visit the NORML Blog.
Admittedly, some of these reflections are ‘war stories’ being told again by an old political activist. But in order to better understand the NORML story as we celebrate 50 years of fighting for marijuana policy reform, I think that it is important to look back at the times and culture that spawned it.
Stay high,
Keith
P.S. Our efforts are supported by thousands of people throughout the country as we work to advance marijuana law reform in all 50 states and at the federal level. Can you pledge $5, $10 or $20 a month to help NORML keep fighting for your freedom?
