5 Calls is rolling out support for a new kind of call: **state-level calls!** We've heard a ton of feedback that 5 Calls would be even more useful to contact state-level reps for legislation moving through state government but we've never been able to only target specific states for specific legislation... until now.

State reps receive vanishingly few calls from constituents so this is a chance to make an impact if you feel like your calls to national reps are falling on deaf ears.

## Why is this important now?

Texas' state legislature is considering a bill that would radically gerrymander even more of their House seats, redistricting the traditionally blue cities in Texas to give Republicans another safe 5 seats in Congress and removing any chance at competitive representation by Democrats in those areas.

This is shocking for two reasons: redistricting typically happens after the census every ten years but Republicans are calling for a special redistricting outside of the normal redistricting timeline. Second, they're being blatant about gerrymandering to get more safe Republican seats, there's not even a false pretense of drawing fair maps. They know the only way to win is to cheat.

Republicans see the unpopularity of the MAGA agenda and they're already in fear of the results of the 2026 midterm elections. The House is barely in Republican control (219 GOP seats, 212 Democrat seats with 4 vacant) so they know that every seat will count during the midterm elections and keeping a Republican-led House means passing more anti-democratic Trump bills.

We now have a page with Texas-specific topics that are being covered right now in Texas' special legislative session, including their efforts to illegally redraw their House districts:

**If you're in Texas,[visit our Texas state page and make calls to your state legislators telling them you won't stand for illegal gerrymandering in your state]([link removed]).**

If you're not in Texas, [call your Governor to demand fair, un-gerrymandered maps everywhere in the nation]([link removed]).

## What state should we cover next?

It already takes almost all of our capacity to track national legislation, tracking 50 states worth of legislation is a huge task that requires significant resources to execute to our standards.

5 Calls is 100% funded by donations from our members, we have no billionaire backers and no PAC money. If you'd like to support growing 5 Calls to the state level, **[pitch in on our state donation page and you can tell us what state you want us to focus on next]([link removed])**!
