Quick update from San Diego: Like so many House Republicans in recent months, Darrell Issa has refused to face his constituents. So… I did! Last weekend, I joined local Indivisible groups for an “Empty Chair Town Hall” in Escondido (Rep. Issa’s district!). Hundreds of people showed up to make their voices heard, and I listened. |
We talked about everything from the cost of housing and child care to how we restore trust in government. People are frustrated – and I get that. Rebuilding trust in both the government and the Democratic Party starts with showing up, listening, and delivering real results.
I heard a lot of the same concerns and questions when I joined a DNC town hall in Utah a few weeks ago – where GOP Rep. Burgess Owens is similarly avoiding his constituents – and I’ll keep answering tough questions wherever and whenever I can, because that’s a non-negotiable part of being an elected official. This work isn’t just about standing up and speaking out – it’s about sitting down and hearing people out. And if the Democratic Party is going to offer voters a bold, affirmative vision for the future, we need to do a lot of that! It’s not enough to resist, we need to rebuild. If you were there in Escondido, thank you so much for being part of this. And if you couldn’t make it, I hope I’ll see you next time. More soon, Sara |
