[link removed] [[link removed]] Dear Friend,

The attacks on public schools keep on coming. My message to school teachers, staff, students, and parents is simple: I have your back.

Earlier this month, I visited western Colorado and met with a school superintendent who shared his frustration and fear about the damage being done by the U.S. Department of Education’s last-minute decision to withhold Congressionally-approved critical funding for school districts across our state. He was angry, and he had every right to be.

My team and I immediately got to work, joining forces with three other state Attorney General offices to lead on a lawsuit demanding the release of these funds.

As I announced the lawsuit, I made my commitment [[link removed]] to public schools clear. And after the Trump Administration backed down, I went on national news to discuss why this fight is so important. Watch the segment here. [[link removed]]

These funds support a range of vital programs, including teacher training, after-school enrichment, and the adoption of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI). I’ve witnessed how AI can enable teachers to become most effective and efficient, like at Magic School, a great Colorado-based startup. I know that impactful after-school programs like those run by Colorado Boys and Girls Clubs depend on this funding. They have thirteen sites across Colorado serving 2,000 young people, many from low‑income, working families who rely on their programs for academic support, healthy meals, and a safe environment after school.

This action, like the other federal overreaches I’ve challenged this year, violates the law, in this case our Constitution’s commitment to the separation of powers. Beyond that, it’s wrong, and hurts schools and students who need our support the most.

Sadly, this is the fourth lawsuit I’ve been forced to bring to protect public education. I’ve also fought to protect grants for a rural teacher pipeline program, mental health services in schools, and critical U.S. Department of Education initiatives being dismantled and undermined illegally.

And on top of these lawsuits against the Trump Administration, I recently led a coalition of state AGs to oppose the diversion of public funds to parochial schools. We prevailed in that case, too.

When it comes to fighting for public education, our teachers, and our students, I am all in.

Phil
