The continued loss of Black trans lives, the recent Supreme Court Title
VII ruling affirming gay and transgender workers are protected under the
Civil Rights Act of 1964 –– these events call us to continue examining
the intersections between race and gender

.

Eliminating transphobia and other forms of gender-based discrimination
and violence requires not only examining bigotry, but also the
political, and material capital of the wealthy and powerful upholding
these systems. The webinar aims to provide a better understanding to
participants of how the gender binary functions to maintain white,
wealthy, cisgender men and women at the top of societal hierarchies.

Please join us on Thursday July 9th, for a new webinar: #RaceAnd The
Gender Binary

will be a virtual online introduction to the past and present
connections between race, colonialism, and the resulting mainstream
gender binary. Through a race-explicit lens, participants will learn
about:

How racial hierarchies have evolved over time through gender-based
violence.

The stories of transgender and gender non-conforming African/Indigenous
people that resisted colonialism and the gender binary, taking place at
least 400 years before the Stonewall uprisings.

Ways to educate and agitate to dismantle existing oppressive systems
through a Black queer feminist lens.
