Dear John,
Last week, a cross-party group of US lawmakers visited Westminster. They met key government figures, and Nigel Farage.
They treated Farage not just as a serious political leader, but as a Prime Minister in waiting.
Then he opened his mouth.
According to Congressman Jamie Raskin, Farage shouted him down, declared Donald Trump the greatest US president ever, and called Raskin “the most pig-headed person he’d ever met.”
It was embarrassing. But it was also revealing.
This is who Farage is. Not a statesman. Not a leader. Just another voice of division, outrage, and chaos.
And yet, he’s dangerously close to power.
Because in our broken political system, Farage doesn’t need a majority to win. He doesn’t need broad support.
That’s why the US delegation met him and treated him like they would the official opposition. No strangers to distorted electoral systems themselves, they know just one third of the vote could be enough to put Farage in Downing Street.
We need to change the system. Not just to a fair, proportional voting system – one that won’t hand power to someone so obviously unfit to be Prime Minister with minority support.
We need wholesale fixes to a democracy that’s been warped for too long by dark money, disinformation, and distrust.
We need a politics that works for everyone. Will you chip in today ([link removed]) to support our work and help make it happen?
