Texas Governor Greg Abbott is escalating a dangerous showdown that threatens not only democracy in Texas but across the entire country.

Courageous Democratic lawmakers fled the state, traveling to Chicago, New York, and Boston, to deny the Texas House a quorum and block a rigged redistricting map engineered to give the Republican Party five more U.S. House seats ahead of 2026.

Abbott responded by issuing a threat: return to Austin, or face removal from office. He’s even warned of felony charges for those raising funds to help cover $500‑a‑day fines—forcing the most vulnerable lawmakers into legal peril just for doing what’s right.

This is a dangerous escalation and an attack on democratically elected representatives and those who voted for them. Abbott is literally threatening to silence elected lawmakers because they dared to defend their constituents from an outrageous power grab.

Let's be clear: as long as this level of partisan gerrymandering is allowed by the United States Supreme Court, we must do EVERYTHING in our power to win the fight and beat back extremists trying to further rig the game for Donald Trump and Mike Johnson.
