Neighbors,
It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of summer, and yet most students in DC will return to school next week. On Monday, I invite you to join me in getting the school year off on the right foot with a welcome back pep rally at 8:00 am at Noyes Elementary where we will be greeting students with cheers and high-fives as they walk through the door for a new school year.
As a parent, I know the preparation for school begins long before the first day. Earlier this month, I was pleased to take part in an annual backpack giveaway at Brentwood Recreation Center, hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Roving Leaders and spearheaded by Ward 5's own Ricardo Duren (pictured above along with DPR Director and Ward 5 resident Delano Hunter).
Whether you have a school-aged child or not, back to school season is in the air, and I'm continuing to work for a safe and productive school year for all DC students.
In service,
Kenyan
