John,

When the seatback adjustment mechanism on a popular lawn chair pinched owners' fingers and even resulted in finger fractures, who worked to get 228,000 of these chairs recalled?

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).[1]

And who led the campaign to raise awareness of the product's hazards and worked with the manufacturer to redesign it to be safe? The CPSC again.

This is the work of the CPSC in real time. Yet a dangerously misguided plan under consideration in Congress would gut the commission, putting millions of American kids and families at risk.

Tell your U.S. senators: Protect the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Both independent and bipartisan, the CPSC has ensured the safety of everyday household products such as appliances and toys for the last 53 years. When a product doesn't work as intended, it's the CPSC that investigates the hazard and works with the company to issue a recall.

Yet the administration wants to reorganize the CPSC under the Department of Health & Human Services, which would slash the CPSC's budget and lay off critical staff.[2]

Urge your U.S. senators: Don't eliminate the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Thanks to the CPSC, your lawn mower is safe to use. Your baby's crib is secure, too, because of the commission's standards and testing.

If the administration moves forward with its plans to gut the CPSC, American families may find themselves risking injury in their own homes.

Urge your U.S. senators: Protect the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Thank you,
