Jack Smith, Biden’s Hatchet Man, Under Investigation

Remember Jack Smith?

During the Biden administration, Smith led two criminal investigations into Trump that went absolutely nowhere and were eventually dropped: one focused on Trump’s handling of classified documents, and the other on whether Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 were aimed at overturning the 2020 election.

Smith is now under investigation by the Office of Special Counsel for allegedly violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits government employees from engaging in political activity while serving in office. The OSC launched its probe after Sen. Tom Cotton wrote a letter blasting Smith’s politicized lawfare.

“Jack Smith’s legal actions were nothing more than a tool for the Biden and Harris campaigns. This isn’t just unethical, it is very likely illegal campaign activity from a public office,” Sen. Tom Cotton wrote. “Many of Smith’s legal actions seem to have no rationale except for an attempt to affect the 2024 election results – actions that would violate federal law.

Trump Turns Up The Heat on Russia with Nuclear Submarine Order

Donald Trump announced Friday that he ordered two nuclear submarines to be “positioned in the appropriate regions” amid a war of words with Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council.

Medvedev reminded Trump on Thursday about his country’s Soviet-era, doomsday strike capabilities that would launch nukes even if all of Russia’s leaders were killed.

“Based on [Medvedev’s] highly provocative statements … I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that. Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances,” the president said on Truth Social.

Earlier in the week, a frustrated Trump shortened the deadline for Putin to reach a ceasefire with Ukraine to "10 or 12 days," saying he is “not so interested in talking anymore.”

Unlike Joe Biden's administration, whose every move escalated or prolonged America’s proxy war with Russia, Trump wants peace in the region. But he is still playing a risky game by shrinking the ceasefire deadline and dialing up the rhetoric in his latest move.

White House Defends Decision to Fire Labor Stats Official

White House economic adviser Ken Hasset defended the president’s decision to fire the Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer after the July jobs report showed less than stellar results and drastic revisions for May and June’s numbers.

The BLS reported Friday that the United States economy added 73,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in July, a number weaker than expected by economists. In response, Trump called the report “rigged” and said that he asked his team to fire McEntarfer.

“The bottom line is that there were people involved in creating these numbers. And if I were running the BLS and I had a number that was a huge, politically important revision, the biggest since 1968 actually ... then I would have a really long report explaining exactly what happened. And we didn’t get that,” Hasset said Sunday on “Meet The Press.”

Friday’s report showed massive revisions to the jobs numbers originally tallied by the BLS. The U.S. added 19,000 jobs in May, compared to the initial report of 144,000. And in June, the country added 14,000 after the initial 147,000.

Israeli Settlers Kill Another American Citizen

So much for “special ally.”

Morning Note previously reported on the death of 20-year-old Florida man Sayfollah Musallet, who was “brutally” beaten by a group of Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

Yet again, another American citizen has perished at the hands of Israeli settlers. Khamis Abdul Latif Ayyad, 41, died from smoke inhalation after Israelis ignited a fire while targeting cars and homes in his village late at night, according to a report.

The State Department confirmed his death in a statement.

"We can confirm the death of a U.S. citizen in the town of Silwad in the West Bank. We offer condolences to the family on their loss and are providing consular assistance to them. We condemn criminal violence by any party in the West Bank," a State Department spokesperson told the Miami Herald.

Ayyad's brother described him as a dedicated, hardworking family man liked by his community in Chicago: "He was loved by everyone. He caused no problems at all," the brother said.

Ayyad tragically leaves behind a wife and five children, ages 6-15.

Senate Republicans Drop the Ball on Trump Nominees

Dozens of executive branch nominees remain in limbo as Democrats continue to play partisan politics, delaying the confirmations and gumming up President Trump’s agenda. Instead of using more aggressive procedural tactics, Senate Republicans attempted to cut a deal to grease the procedural gears, but failed.

Trump had previously pressured Senate Republicans to stay in Washington ahead of the August recess to confirm his nominees. However, talks between Senate Majority Leader John Thune and his counterpart, Chuck Schumer, to fast-track the confirmations collapsed right before lawmakers departed the capital.

In exchange for the procedural agreement, Democrats reportedly wanted to unfreeze government funding on foreign aid and the NIH.

After the talks went south, Trump teed off on Schumer.

“Senator Cryin’ Chuck Schumer is demanding over One Billion Dollars in order to approve a small number of our highly qualified nominees, who should right now be helping to run our Country,” the president said on Truth Social. “GO TO HELL!”

“Family Feud” Team Raises Money for Black, Transgender Hookers

Actor Laverne Cox, who has made a career out of pretending to be a woman, used a classic, family-friendly, Disney/ABC show to fundraise for black, transgender hookers.

“We’re at ‘Celebrity Family Feud’, and I am here with my chosen family, my dear sisters Mila Jam, Joslyn De Freece, TS Madison, and Peppermint,” Cox said in a video on Instagram ahead of the episode’s airing.

“We’re playing for the TS Madison Starter House, partnered with NAESM,” Cox’s teammate Madison, also a biological male, said in the video. “The TS Madison Starter House is a re-entry house for system-impacted trans women.”

Ah, yes. A re-entry house for system-impacted trans women.

As it turns out, so-called “system-impacted trans women” are actually “black trans women engaged in sex work.” Those aren’t our words. That’s according to Madison’s website.

St. Louis Couple Who Defended Home from BLM Mob Finally Get AR-15 Back

During the 2020 summer of the BLM riots, Mark and Patricia McCloskey bravely stood outside their St. Louis home, holding guns, and defending their property against potential looters. They became a symbol in defense of the Second Amendment and all the fed-up Americans who were tired of mobs ransacking their cities.

Of course, the left demonized them at the time, smearing the viral couple as racists who wanted to incite violence against black people. It couldn’t have been further from the truth.

Five years of legal fights later, the McCloskeys finally got their AR-15 back.

“It only took 3 lawsuits, 2 trips to the Court of Appeals and 1,847 days, but I got my AR15 back!” Mark McCloskey posted to his X account on Friday. “We defended our home, were persecuted by the left, smeared by the press, and threatened with death, but we never backed down.”

Good for them.

WURST NIGHTMARE: Thousands of Hot Dogs Go to Waste, Cause Massive Traffic Jam

Thousands of hot dogs clogged a main commuting artery in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, just north of Maryland, after a crash during Friday morning rush hour.

According to state police, a truck with a mechanical problem struck another vehicle on Interstate 83, causing its trailer to scrape alongside the concrete divider, rip, and open a flood of hot dogs that spilled over the entire highway.

Cleanup crews had to bust out a front loader to pick up the dogs and drop them into a dump truck – a tragedy in its own right, as no one wants to see quality glizzes ever go to waste.

“I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery,” Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman said. “I did not know that.”

It could’ve been wurst, though. Police said four people required medical attention, but thankfully, for non-life-threatening injuries.

Commentary

National Goon’s Israeli Vacation

The House began its August recess early this year, giving lawmakers time to visit their districts in the dog days of summer.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson did just that. On July 30, he made a couple of stops in north Louisiana and met with constituents, local leaders, and business owners to discuss what he’s doing in Washington and, more importantly, what they want him to do on their behalf.

Johnson doesn’t deserve praise for this, a pat on the back, or a cookie. This is a part of his job – maybe the most important part. This is what he should be doing every opportunity he gets. The whole point of recess isn’t to give Congress a relaxing beach vacation, but to allow representatives to reconnect and interact with the citizens of their state. You know, American citizens?

Which is why it’s so weird that Mike Johnson would jet off to a foreign country during recess.

Johnson and Republican Texas Reps. Michael McCaul, Michael Cloud, Nate Moran, and New York Rep. Claudia Tenney met with Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar, a ghoulish propagandist for Netanyahu. Johnson also visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem on Sunday, with the speaker staging a photo op to pledge his undying fealty to the state of Israel.

“Our prayer is that America will always stand with Israel and that we will — we pray for the preservation and the peace of Jerusalem. That’s what Scripture tells us to do. It’s a matter of faith for us and a commitment that we have,” Johnson said.

If you watched the video of Johnson and didn’t know who he was, you would probably assume he worked for the Israeli government or that he was some kind of important religious figure or biblical scholar. You certainly wouldn’t assume that he was an American politician who just days prior was sitting down for breakfast with the Rotary Club of Ruston, Louisiana.

Not only does Johnson’s little foreign sojourn defeat the entire purpose of Congressional recess, but it is also emblematic of Washington’s core problem: putting foreign countries and foreign people over American citizens.

Johnson should’ve stayed in his home state instead of making a fool out of himself in Jerusalem. Checking the box on a couple of town halls isn’t enough. He owes his time to the hardworking Louisianan who’s struggling to afford groceries and pay his bills, not one of Netanyahu’s henchmen.

This Day in History

August 4, 1944: After receiving a tip from an informant, the Nazi Gestapo located and captured 15-year-old Anne Frank and her family, who were sheltering inside an Amsterdam warehouse with the help of two Christians. Frank began writing a diary on her 13th birthday in 1942, detailing her daily experiences while living under Nazi tyranny. In one diary entry from 1944, she expressed hope that the Allies’ successful invasion of Normandy would soon lead to the liberation of Holland. Frank and her family were eventually sent to Auschwitz, where they perished. Her diary, commonly referred to as “The Diary of Anne Frank,” was later published in over 70 languages. Read more.
