Visits Around the Seventh District
It's August, which means I get to spend the whole month back in the Seventh District, and it has been great talking to constituents about their priorities, how Congress can help, and how the One Big Beautiful Bill becoming law impacts them.
It was great to catch up with the First District Association and the Minnesota Farm Bureau over lunch this week. We discussed how the One Big Beautiful Bill and new trade agreements are going to benefit our rural and ag economies.
The Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC) provides commercial, home mortgage lending, business and, community development services throughout the state of Minnesota. Thank you for taking the time to discuss the work you're doing across the region.
The Lakes Area Pregnancy Support Center is a non-profit that has been offering free services to families facing unplanned pregnancies for over 30 years. This week, I stopped at their center in Wadena, and they have locations in Staples and Brainerd, as well. Pregnancy centers like this one play a critical role in supporting women and their families and empowering them to choose life.
I took a plane ride with Lakes Area Aviation, which was founded to provide high quality aviation services and instruction. If I were learning to fly, I'd want to do it near the birthplace of the famous Charles Lindbergh! Thank you very much to the team for showing me how your facilities operate and the impact you've had on your community.

I joined a roundtable discussion hosted by the Park Rapids Chamber of Commerce to talk about the work they are doing to make their community a better place. We talked about everything from tariffs to ongoing workforce housing concerns to rural broadband access. We also talked about the misinformation surrounding Medicaid in the One Big Beautiful Bill. The legislation does not cut funding for those who need it. It introduces targeted reforms to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse within the program. This will ensures the resources are being directed to those who are truly eligible to receive them. This will preserve the long-term sustainability of the Medicaid.

At Lakewood Health System in Staples, we discussed the issues facing rural hospitals and, the Rural Transformation Program. This program was included in the One Big Beautiful Bill to focus on rural providers. I also saw the progress they are making on their new cancer center, which is set to open in October. Thank you to all involved for your continued work to strengthen your community.
