Dear John:

I am proud to be working in a Congress and with an Administration that takes a comprehensive approach to solving the issues this country is facing. The economy is a perfect example. We are working together to make our economy the strongest it has ever been. We are cutting government waste, fraud, and abuse. We passed the One Big Beautiful Bill to provide tax relief to the average American worker and their family. And we are strengthening the position of our producers on the international stage by negotiating new trade relationships. Fixing any one of these issues would be a meaningful change from the trends of the last four years, but we understand that to make the whole economy strong, you need to address every component.

In the last couple of weeks, President Trump has proved yet again that he is delivering on trade by making historic deals. In addition to negotiating non-tariff barriers and expanding business opportunities for farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers, the European Union has agreed to invest $600 billion in the U.S. over the course of President Trump's term. They have also agreed to purchase $750 billion in U.S. energy exports through 2028.

Over the past four years, the U.S. has gone from a $450 million ag trade surplus with Indonesia to a $1.1 billion deficit. President Trump has reversed that trend. Not only is Indonesia committing to addressing non-tariff barriers for our producers, but they are also eliminating approximately 99% of tariff barriers for a full range of U.S.-exported industrial and ag products.

With hundreds of countries coming to the table to pitch different deals, top officials in the Administration have hinted at even more of these deals being announced in the coming days.

Visits Around the Seventh District

It's August, which means I get to spend the whole month back in the Seventh District, and it has been great talking to constituents about their priorities, how Congress can help, and how the One Big Beautiful Bill becoming law impacts them.

It was great to catch up with the First District Association and the Minnesota Farm Bureau over lunch this week. We discussed how the One Big Beautiful Bill and new trade agreements are going to benefit our rural and ag economies.

The Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC) provides commercial, home mortgage lending, business and, community development services throughout the state of Minnesota. Thank you for taking the time to discuss the work you're doing across the region.

The Lakes Area Pregnancy Support Center is a non-profit that has been offering free services to families facing unplanned pregnancies for over 30 years. This week, I stopped at their center in Wadena, and they have locations in Staples and Brainerd, as well. Pregnancy centers like this one play a critical role in supporting women and their families and empowering them to choose life.

I took a plane ride with Lakes Area Aviation, which was founded to provide high quality aviation services and instruction. If I were learning to fly, I'd want to do it near the birthplace of the famous Charles Lindbergh! Thank you very much to the team for showing me how your facilities operate and the impact you've had on your community.

I joined a roundtable discussion hosted by the Park Rapids Chamber of Commerce to talk about the work they are doing to make their community a better place. We talked about everything from tariffs to ongoing workforce housing concerns to rural broadband access. We also talked about the misinformation surrounding Medicaid in the One Big Beautiful Bill. The legislation does not cut funding for those who need it. It introduces targeted reforms to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse within the program. This will ensures the resources are being directed to those who are truly eligible to receive them. This will preserve the long-term sustainability of the Medicaid.

At Lakewood Health System in Staples, we discussed the issues facing rural hospitals and, the Rural Transformation Program. This program was included in the One Big Beautiful Bill to focus on rural providers. I also saw the progress they are making on their new cancer center, which is set to open in October. Thank you to all involved for your continued work to strengthen your community.
