Americans for Safe Access Update:

WE PRESERVED MOST FEDERAL
PROTECTIONS FOR PATIENTS & ADVANCED VETERAN ACCESS
Thanks to ASA's allies,
we were able to move Congress to go against President Trump's budget
proposal and protect medical cannabis
patients!
|
Since
2014, the Medical Cannabis Amendment to the Commerce, Justice,
Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) Appropriations Bill has barred the
DOJ from interfering with state-authorized medical cannabis programs.
This longstanding provision has protected more than six million
patients and the medical cannabis stakeholders that support them.
Unfortunately, the FY2026 budget proposal from President Trump omitted
these protections entirely.
Americans
for Safe Access snapped into action and organized a sign-on letter
with the organizations above, demanding that these protections remain
in the DOJ budget. While we were able to get the language
added to the bill, the House version includes new
language—specifically Section 529(b)—that would allow federal
interference to return to these states. Another provision, Section
607, would block the ongoing federal cannabis rescheduling process,
undermining years of scientific review, public comment, and agency
work.
We also
got language added to the Veterans budget that would allow VHA
physicians to recommend medical cannabis and fill out the necessary
paperwork to enable them to use the state medical cannabis
programs.
These wins are not guaranteed until they are signed
with a Sharpie!

Honestly, Friend,
we need your help to keep the pressure on Congress to make these
changes. More importantly, we must change federal laws to integrate
cannabis into our healthcare systems once and for all! But change takes
resources.
CAN YOU COMMIT TO A MONTHLY DONATION OF $10, $25,
$50, OR MORE TO PROTECT AND EXPAND ACCESS FOR MEDICAL CANNABIS
PATIENTS?
