Hi friend,

I hope everyone is staying cool in these hot temperatures across Hudson Valley and much of the rest of the country. For today’s Patriot Weekly, I wanted to talk about our continued fight for the ferry, my constituent services across the district, expanding healthcare for military families, and holding Republicans accountable for selling out working people.

A lot of people tune out politics during the summer months, but I wanted to thank you for sticking with me. The other side isn’t taking a single day off, so neither can we.

What’s going on

Hudson Valley

What I’m doing: When the MTA announced it was permanently shutting down the Beacon–Newburgh ferry, I pushed back — hard. This ferry isn’t just a commute option. It’s a vital piece of Hudson Valley infrastructure that supports our economy, tourism, and quality of life. Once again, our community is being asked to pay into a NYC-centric system while getting less in return. That’s not fair, and I’m fighting to get the service restored.

What you can do:  Keep showing up and speaking out in support of our local transit. Let the MTA know that we will always stand strong for the Hudson Valley. We had a great showing at the rally this week, let’s keep it up!

New York

What I’m doing: One of my top priorities is making government work better for the people I serve. That’s why my team launched the C.A.R.E.S. Van, a mobile office that brings caseworkers and constituent services to communities across the Hudson Valley. Whether you're dealing with the VA, IRS, or another federal agency, we’re here to help, face-to-face and close to home.

What you can do:  Know someone who needs help with a federal agency? Let them know about this important service. The C.A.R.E.S. Van will be stopping in New Paltz, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Middletown, Amenia, Blooming Grove, Pleasant Valley, Washingtonville, Pine Bush, and Cornwall this month.

Washington

What I’m doing: Military families deserve the same quality of health care as every other American. That’s why I introduced the Health Care Fairness for Military Families Act, a bipartisan bill that would fix a deeply unfair gap in TRICARE coverage. Right now, military dependents lose coverage years earlier than their civilian peers, forcing families to pay thousands out of pocket just to keep their kids insured. That’s a betrayal of their service, and we’re working to change it. TRICARE should cover dependents up to 26 years of age, just like private sector plans do.

What you can do:  This bill would save military families up to $8,724 a year and bring TRICARE in line with private plans. If you believe military families deserve the same peace of mind as everyone else, help us build support by speaking out on social media or calling your representatives if you’re outside NY-18.

Let’s make sure our servicemembers and their families get the care they’ve earned.

Going on offense

Trump is lobbying against a bill that would ban politicians from stock trading, using their inside information to make huge profits. This is outrageous! At the end of the day, this all comes down to serving the people instead of lining your own pocket. Those who work hard for a living versus politicians who betray the people’s trust—using the positions they’ve been entrusted with to conduct insider trading. Those fighting to expand the American Dream to everyone versus those who seek to hoard it for the wealthy and well connected. I know which side I’m on, and I know that you’ll stand with me.

Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!

In Solidarity,

Pat
