Seriously, folks, I’ve drafted a proposal for the 28th Amendment to the Constitution.
The plan would correct a little-known flaw in our political system; one that's enabled the rise of authoritarianism in America.
I hope you’ll be as keen on this innovative strategy as I am. We’ll dive deeper in just a second, but if you’re pressed for time, skip the full spiel and endorse my full legislative package, A Common Sense Vision for American Democracy, at the button below!
When our founders wrote the Constitution, they designed the Senate to protect the power of small states in national politics.
That was a fair compromise at the time. They just didn't anticipate that 200+ years later, some states would have up to 6,500% more residents than the smallest ones.
Today, 39M people spread across the 21 smallest states control 42 Senate seats, while the same number of Californians control just 2 Senate seats.
As this gap widens each year, power skews more in favor of small states, and the Senate becomes less democratic.
A majority of Senators now represent a minority of Americans. And that minority gets to make CRITICALLY IMPORTANT decisions like who sits on our Supreme Court, runs top federal agencies, and serves on the presidential Cabinet.
Here’s how my proposed amendment would restore balance to the Senate:
Create 12 at-large Senate seats elected by national popular vote
Ensure all eligible Americans can vote for these senators
Add 12 at-large Electoral College members to vote for the national popular vote winner
Now, I want to address the elephant in the room. Bold reforms like this are a long shot in this toxic political climate. I won’t pretend that any signature or petition can change that.
However, there will come a day when we leave Trump and MAGA behind. We'll have to decide, as a nation, how to move forward. And we'll need a blueprint for the modern, strong, and free America we want to build together.
That’s what this plan is all about.
I'd be honored to get your stamp of approval. Will you take a minute to endorse my plan for a Senate that reflects the will of the American people?
Thank you,
Sean Casten
