Monday, July 28, 2025: On Saturday, I was honored to speak at the Georgia Forestry Association’s (GFA) 2025 Annual Conference on Jekyll Island. This is the largest, most diverse gathering of forest landowners, investors, professionals, and forest manufacturers in the U.S. Georgia is the top forestry state in the nation, generating more than $36 billion of revenue and covering a majority of the state’s land area. On Sunday, I was at Lake Oconee, where I met with a couple of constituents and welcomed a group of pharmacists from across the Southeast. I’m still at Lake Oconee today as I spend time with the pharmacy group as we discuss issues pertaining to our profession.
Rep. Carter with Georgia Recovers
Tuesday, July 29, 2025: I’m live on the World Famous Butch and Bob show in Jesup this morning as we discuss news of the day, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) and the Recissions package we recently passed. Next, I have a phone interview with Bloomberg to discuss legislation I have introduced, the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) Reform Act of 2025. This legislation will help to bring down the price of medications by reigning in PBMs, the middleman, who are adding tremendous costs to drugs without bringing any benefits. It will eliminate spread pricing (where the PBM charges more than they pay for the drug, such as buying a drug for $5 and charging $10) in Medicaid, require more transparency in discounts that the PBM’s obtain, and de-links the price PBM’s charge for a drug from a percentage of the cost of the drug to a flat fee. Very conservative estimates say these three things will save more than $6.5 billion over the next 10 years. After joining in on our all staff conference call, I head to Atlanta, where I meet with retired Atlanta Deputy Fire Chief Dr. Byron Kennedy to discuss reauthorization of the FirstNet program. FirstNet is the only dedicated communications platform in the country that brings first responders always-on priority and preemption for calls, texts, and data. This is a much-needed program that is used during emergency responses such as hurricanes and wildfires when mobile service is interrupted for periods of time. Afterwards, I have a virtual interview with Veterans InfoTap, a podcast that covers transitioning from service, being in the Reserves or National Guard, discharge within 1 year, and Veterans out of service over 1 year. During the podcast, we discuss the work I have done for veterans, spouses, and their dependents while serving in Congress. Next, I head to Hillside Hospital in Atlanta, a longstanding nonprofit behavioral health center for children and adolescents that provides residential, day, outpatient and in-home mental health services, along with virtual programming. Later, I head to the studios of WSB-TV where I am honored to be the special guest on the Shelley Wynter radio show as we discuss the upcoming Georgia U.S. Senate race.
Rep. Carter Hillside Visit
Wednesday, July 30, 2025: I’m in Social Circle in Walton County this morning as I visit and tour Takeda Pharmaceuticals, a state-of-the-art, 1.1 million-square-foot biotech manufacturing campus that makes plasma-based therapies for people affected by rare diseases and other highly specialized conditions. In Congress, I serve as co-chair of the Congressional Plasma Caucus, a group of government officials, both Senators and Representatives, who come together in a bipartisan manner to pursue shared goals of this drug therapy. After a great visit, I head to Reagan’s Pharmacy in Conyers in Rockdale County, where I meet with store owner Jeff Reagan and other pharmacists in the area to discuss legislation impacting the practice of pharmacy. After a great meeting, I head to NDR Warehouse in Covington in Newton County, where I tour the FirstNet facilities of AT&T and see firsthand the resources used to expand mobile broadband service to public safety entities across Georgia and the nation. Both the FirstNet Response Operations Group (ROG) and National Disaster Recovery (NDR) assets are most impressive. After a meeting with a constituent in Alpharetta, I have a radio interview with WDUN in North Georgia to discuss news of the day, and then head to Roswell to meet with the Fulton County GOP.
Rep. Carter Visits Reagan Pharmacy
Thursday, July 31, 2025: After filming this week’s edition of Buddy’s Briefing, I head to the State Capitol where I meet with Georgia Council for Recovery Strategic Policy Advisor Jeff Breedlove as we discuss the Naloxone overdose recovery kits that are in place in the State Capitol and my recent successful efforts to have the kits placed in the U.S. Capitol. Afterwards, I have a phone interview with my good friend John Fredericks on his great show before heading to Open Hand Atlanta for a tour and afterwards to deliver meals. Opened in 1988 and originally called Project Open Hand, they now deliver around 5,000 medically tailored, scratch-cooked meals daily and are accredited by the Food is Medicine coalition. It was also a delight to deliver meals to Ms. Sowell and Mr. Stewart and hear of their great experiences with Open Hand. Afterwards, I head to Griffin in Spaulding County, where I meet with Griffin-Spaulding Chamber of Commerce CEO Cindy Jones and Membership Director Allison Pollard to learn of the great work being done in this area of our State. After a great visit, I have a call with the CEO of Stealth Biopharmaceuticals to get an update on the approval process for their drug Elamipretide, used to treat Barth Syndrome and other ultra-rare genetic mitochondrial dysfunction.

Friday, August 1, 2025: After a phone interview with NBC News to discuss the approval process of the drug Elamipretide and other ultra-rare genetic drugs, I have a call with my Chief of Staff and District Director while on the way to BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Lilburn in Gwinnett County. This huge Hindu temple is built of hand-carved stone and surrounded by 30 acres of landscaped grounds. The mandir is made of 34,450 pieces of hand-carved Italian marble, Turkish Limestone and Indian pink sandstone. It is truly beautiful and one of the most amazing pieces of architecture I have ever seen. Afterwards, I head to Sugar Hill for a meeting with a State Representative before heading to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) lab in Atlanta. This state-of-the-art facility provides scientific support to DEA Special Agents and other law enforcement personnel. From analysis of suspected controlled substances to crime scene investigations, this lab can do it all. Later, I am live on Washington Watch with my good friend and former Congressional colleague, Jody Hice, as we discuss the situation in Gaza and the Middle East.
