Hi, Israel's near-total blockade on food and water has transformed Gaza into hell on earth. As of yesterday, 169 Gazans have died of starvation, including 93 children.1 Over 1,300 people desperately seeking food have been gunned down by Israeli soldiers.2 Meanwhile, enormous stockpiles of food are sitting in warehouses just across the border, waiting to be delivered if Israel would only open the gates and allow humanitarian aid groups in.3 Enough is enough. These atrocities are clear war crimes, and it would all end tomorrow if the U.S. cut off military aid to Israel. Demand Progress Action has mobilized tens of thousands of people to call for an end to U.S. support for Israel's military, and with children starving and the last lifelines collapsing in Gaza, we must urgently ramp up our efforts right now. According to the head of the United Nations, "Palestinians in Gaza are enduring a humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions. This is not a warning. It is a reality unfolding before our eyes."4 But a global backlash to Israel's war on Gaza has begun to turn the tide of public opinion, including in the U.S.5 The latest Gallup poll finds that Americans disapprove of Israel's conduct of the war by a two-to-one margin.6 A record 27 U.S. senators voted this week to block Trump's latest shipment of bombs to Israel. Only 14 Senators voted in favor of a similar resolution to block additional military aid to Israel in April.7 Sen. Bernie Sanders, who sponsored the effort to block the new weapons shipment to Israel, said that "the tide is turning" in the face of Israel's "horrific, immoral, and illegal war against the Palestinian people." He continued, "The American people do not want to spend billions to starve children in Gaza."8 Make no mistake: Israel's blockade would end tomorrow if the U.S. demanded it. That's why we're ramping up our emergency campaign to pressure Congress to finally cut off military aid to Israel and stop using our taxpayer dollars to starve Palestinian kids.
