Hers and His and Financial Decision-Making
In partnership with Starling Bank, Fawcett has published Hers and His: Opening up the household budget which looks at financial decision-making behaviours and attitudes for cohabiting mixed-sex couples in the UK. From daily expenses to significant financial commitments, the report looks at how men and women divide household roles and responsibilities and the impact of this on their time and well-being. Findings include:

Women are more likely to budget and manage spending.
Women now have more influence over big purchasing decisions than before.
Women continue to make most of the daily decisions on household purchases.
Women are more likely than men to feel guilty when buying something for themselves.

While this research provides key insights into the finances of women living with a male partner, this is only part of the picture. The findings should sit alongside other research that looks at the financial challenges experienced by other women, including those living alone or with friends, single mothers and LGBTQ women.
