Good morning! It is an absolutely glorious 68 degrees this morning and I'm sitting on my little patio, surrounded by my houseplants and some birdsong.

Except...

Someone in a Ryder moving truck is parked here. Just idling noisily. Drowning out my birds. GOOOOO FRIEND! MAY THE WIND BE AT YOUR BACK! A couple of times I was hopeful when it sounded like he was revving the motor to put it into gear, but alas, here he sits, annoying me.

I've been a city girl for a long time. I can pretend planes flying overhead are thunder. I can pretend distant highway traffic is a noisy creek in the distance. But this? It sounds like nothing but what it is, and even the most vivid imagination would be strained to come up with something else. I have half a mind to go over there in my pink and gray leopard pajamas and shake my cane at him. (There's a mental image that should strike fear into the heart of darn near anyone.)

Anywhooo...there is little better than a break in the weather after a week-long heat wave of temps well exceeding 100 degrees. This is the first morning it's been nice enough to work outdoors, which was my plan the moment I saw this delightful patio. I'm looking forward to autumn, when I'll be able to do the same thing regularly.

My eldest girl, in British Columbia, is on evacuation alert from the wildfires. We talked on the phone yesterday and went over her evac checklist. Her car is loaded, her pets are corralled into the bathroom, and if they get the notification, they're out of there. I well remember watching the smoke in the distance with dread and trying to determine which way the wind was blowing. Currently, it's on the other side of the river that flows behind her place, and we are all praying it stays that way and that the firefighters can get it under control.

(With an accidental blare of the security alarm, that blankety-blank truck just left. Phew. Now I can hear myself think again.)

This week was filled with two physical therapy appointments. They're hard, but each time, I can feel myself getting just a little bit stronger. I know things won't ever be the same, but being able to do a little more and walk a little further is a delicious, sparkling dangling carrot at the end of the PT stick.

I've felt the urge to make some more content about adapting to physical changes. This is such a big part of my life right now. I'm still a prepper of course, but everyday life is so different it's like navigating the world in a totally new mode.

Imagine if you were assigned a brand-new pair of roller skates and you could never take them off. They're stiff, they're uncomfortable, and you don't have any idea how to skate. (Obviously, this can't be true of the roller rink generation like me, but bear with my analogy.)

So now, you have to relearn everything. How to do dishes while on wheels. How to sit down and get up from the bathroom on wheels. How to terrifyingly take a shower...you guessed it...on wheels. You wish you could take the wheels off, just for a few minutes, but they are there, permanently adhered to your aching feet. If you wake up in the middle of the night and forget you are on skates when you go to the bathroom, the results could be catastrophic.

Places you used to go without a second thought have imposing barriers - have you ever tried going up and down stairs on roller skates? Going up and down a set of stairs on roller skates is not only dangerous. It's utterly exhausting. It's scary. You grow to wonder if it's even worth this particular outing.

But every time you learn to do something new on roller skates, your world opens up just a little bit more. It's a metamorphosis that makes you really ask yourself what you're doing with your time.

This week, I finished a product I've been thinking about after a tornado warning left me slowly hobbling around to get to my safe room. We all feel so low on time these days but we can always squeeze in five minutes to make our loved ones safer by teaching them some simple, life-saving skills and practicing them. It doesn't hurt us any to be able to test ourselves and see if we're as spry as we think we are! The product is a PDF called Practice Makes Prepped and I think that you'll enjoy using it. And, of course, the bonus is that your purchase helps us keep the lights on over at The Organic Prepper, a task that I thought would be easier with the new administration, but we still find ourselves demonetized.

You can grab yours for as little as $3 at the link below.

The cats are staring banefully out the window at me as I enjoy this beautiful morning, and my coffee mug is down to the last sweet, creamy sip. I have doctor's appointments this week and should be able to update you on new events by next Sunday. Thank you, as always, for being my friends, my supporters, and the people I want to talk to first.

Stay safe.

Be happy.

Love,

Daisy
