Shore News Network: Maryland joins lawsuit to stop federal restrictions on access to public benefits - "These sweeping restrictions would gut vital safety net programs and endanger the health, education, and well-being of our most vulnerable neighbors," Attorney General Brown said in a statement.
The Trump administration just issued a sweeping policy that could strip access to healthcare, education, and critical services from some of our most vulnerable neighbors.
Head Start. Community health centers. Mental health clinics. Food programs. Family planning services. These lifesaving programs are now at risk.
Here’s what just happened:
FIRST: Four federal agencies—including HHS and the Department of Education—issued new rules that block safety net programs from serving residents unless they verify immigration status.
THEN: These rules went into effect immediately, with no notice, no infrastructure to implement them, and no concern for the chaos they would cause.
NOW: Clinics, shelters, and schools are facing a terrible choice: turn people away, or lose their federal funding.
Attorney General Brown has taken this fight to court because every Marylander deserves care, dignity, and a chance to thrive—no matter their immigration status. These programs protect all of us, not just some of us.
If you believe we should stand up to this dangerous agenda, will you chip in $25 or more to our reelection campaign?
