Trauma, healing, and your nervous system explained
According to neuroscientists and psychiatrists, healing begins with awareness and compassionate connection.
Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, Dr. Wendy Suzuki, and Dr. James Doty explain how trauma and anxiety are processed through both the brain and body: trauma isn’t just what happens to us, but how our nervous system holds onto it, disrupting our ability to feel safe, connect with others, and think clearly.

WorkWorkThe Pandemic Appears to Have Accelerated Brain Aging, Even in People Who Never Got Covid More than five years after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are still discovering the after-effects of not only the virus but also the prolonged period of stress, isolation, loss, and uncertainty that the pandemic caused. WorkWorkOn Trump, Gaza, and the Perils of a Blank Check for Israel - The New Yorker (No paywall) On Monday, during a visit to one of his two Trump-branded golf courses in Scotland, Donald Trump sat alongside the U.K. Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and stated a fact that should be painfully obvious to an avid cable-news watcher such as himself: there is real starvation happening in Gaza as a result of Israels continuing war against Hamas. Based on television, he had said on the way into the press conference, those children look very hungry. He promised to work with European allies to address the crisis, and mentioned something about food centers. This was portrayed as a direct rebuke to his close ally, Israels Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had earlier claimed, evidence be damned, that there was no starvation in the war-torn strip, where fighting has continued largely without interruption since the Hamas terrorist attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. When asked about Starmers decision to join France in recognizing Palestine as an independent state, Trump all but gave him one of those famous Trumpian thumbs-up signs. Im not going to take a position, the President told reporters. I dont mind him taking a position. WorkWork

Without a mechanism for forgetting, you would be unable to filter out unnecessary information when youre trying to remember something. You don't want to fill your brain with clutter, says Charan Ranganath, a neuroscientist at the University of California, Davis.

WorkWhy isn't enough food getting into Gaza? - WSJ (No paywall) The biggest obstacle right now between stockpiles of food just beyond the border and Gazas most vulnerable peoplestarving children, women, elderly and injuredis a breakdown of law and order. Chaotic mobs ransack every food-bearing truck that enters, aid workers say. The masses are largely made up of desperate civilians, armed criminals looking to sell it on the black marketor a dangerous mix of both.
