“Ruby’s eyes looked so yellow,” her mom Melissa remembers.
Born with a dangerous liver condition, Ruby had just undergone surgery to prevent liver failure. She was just 8 weeks old. Her yellow eyes signaled an urgent need for a liver transplant.
Ruby spent more than 300 days on the donor waitlist. In the hospital, her mom read to her. Books helped Ruby fall asleep and became an escape from pain. |
And then the hopeful call came! A match was found. Ruby would receive the life-saving gift of a liver.
Soon after surgery, Ruby’s medical team told her parents about Make-A-Wish®, saying, “A wish provides a platform of hope and a new beginning for Ruby.”
Inspired by all she’d learned enduring her critical illness and waiting for her new liver, Ruby wished to create a children’s book about her experience. Ruby’s story teaches kindness, sparks empathy and inspires others to be brave.
Wishes give wish kids like Ruby the hope, joy and strength to fight and even overcome their critical illnesses – and you make wishes possible. Please give now while your gift can still be MATCHED 3X by our generous group of donors.
Wishfully,
Make-A-Wish |
