Dear neighbor,

This week, CA-31 is booming with new businesses and community resources. We proudly welcomed a new community garden in the City of Duarte, celebrated the grand opening of Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in Glendora, and honored a Duarte Kiwanis Club community angel for outstanding community service.

Congratulations to the City of Duarte on its new community garden! Thank you to the City Council, city staff, and all the local partners who helped make this garden come to life.

Last week, Rize Credit Union partnered with local organizations to host a financial literacy program to teach students real-world financial literacy tips and tricks. Programs like these will help guide our future generations into success.

After a great remodel and to celebrate their anniversary, we are excited for Norms West Covina to be back serving iconic diner classics to the community!

Finally, we are extending a warm CA-31 welcome to Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in Glendora. Congratulations on your grand opening, and thank you for adding another spot with delicious treats and eats in our district!

Today, I introduced the SBIR Commercialization Improvement Act, which aims to support the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs by establishing training programs for the federal agency workforce, directing standardized rules and contracts, and clarifying contracting duties. The SBIR and STTR programs at the SBA are essential for the commercial success of small businesses across the country. But without proper support, these businesses face barriers and a potentially fatal funding gap at the final stage before getting the chance to thrive. I introduced the SBIR Commercialization Improvement Act to provide more training and practical solutions that give our small businesses a greater chance to succeed.

This week, Medicare and Medicaid celebrated their 60th anniversary since being signed into law, creating a lifeline for millions of Americans. Now, 17 million Americans are going to lose healthcare coverage in the largest cut to Medicaid in history – all thanks to Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.

The Trump administration’s reckless cuts are hurting everyone. If your grant funding was slashed, your healthcare threatened, or your SNAP benefits were cut—I want to hear from you.

I’m hosting a Medicare Town Hall on Tuesday, August 19, at 6:00 PM Pacific, and I hope to see you there.

If you can't get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, my office may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. While we cannot guarantee you a favorable outcome, we will do our best to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem.
