Heads up: Major I-5 lane closures underway — take transit and avoid stress!
Summer is here — and so is roadwork season, and Seattle has a doozy of a project still underway.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has begun major *Revive I-5* [ [link removed] ] repair work on the northbound Ship Canal Bridge, and that means two northbound lanes of the freeway are still closed.
Yes, it’s a big deal. Yes, it’s going to impact your summer travels. But with a little planning and the right tools, you can ease the traffic blues.
WSDOT’s project aims to give the aging Ship Canal Bridge some much-needed TLC. The result will be smoother roads and better safety — but first, the region must power through some serious traffic challenges.
*Here’s what’s happening:*
* Two northbound I-5 lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge will be closed 24/7 for the duration of the project.
* The Express Lanes will stay open northbound from July 18 to Aug. 18 around the clock to help keep traffic moving.
* All northbound lanes between I-90 and NE 45th will close again to remove the work zone from *Friday night,* Aug. 15 to Monday morning, August 18.
*Translation:* You’ll want to think twice about hopping on I-5 north like it’s a normal day. You’ve got options — and now’s the time to use them. Check out our Metro Matters blog [ [link removed] ] for all the tips and tricks.

Fleet Week Fun: Free rides for military & veterans — plus Blue Angels and Seafair hydro thrills hit Seattle this weekend!
If you’re an active-duty member of the military or a veteran, Metro and Sound Transit is again proud to offer *free rides *to military personnel and veterans during *Fleet Week* *July 29-Aug. 3*.
Fleet Week [ [link removed] ] is a longstanding Seafair tradition. Ships from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy will be docked at piers along the Seattle waterfront for the public to tour and enjoy. During Fleet Week we invite active-duty service members and veterans to ride for free in uniform or with valid military identification on these services:
* Metro buses
* King County Metro Water Taxi
* Metro Flex
* King County Metro Access paratransit, DART, Community Connections and Community Van
* Sound Transit Link light rail, Express buses and Sounder
* Seattle Streetcar
There’s so much fun to get to, including Seafair Weekend [ [link removed] ] Friday to Sunday with hydro races and the Boeing Air Show, featuring the headliner Blue Angels. There will be a free round-trip shuttle service [ [link removed] ] from the Columbia City Link light rail station to the Seafair festival entrance. The shuttle will run from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
*Our thanks to those who serve!*

King County Metro, Water Taxi and Seattle Streetcar adult fares change Sept. 1, 2025
[ [link removed] ]
Adult fares are changing Sept. 1, 2025, on King County Metro buses, Metro Flex, both Seattle Streetcar lines and both King County Water Taxi routes. ORCA LIFT fares on both Water Taxi routes are also changing. Reduced fare rates for Senior, Disabled, Youth, and ORCA LIFT riders will remain unchanged everywhere else.
The new adult $3 fare brings the price of riding Metro buses, Metro Flex and Seattle Streetcar in alignment with Sound Transit’s flat fare on Link light rail and Express buses. The Metro Vanpool/Transit pass will increase from $99 to $108 to account for this new fare on regular transit service.
This is Metro’s first adult bus fare increase since establishing a flat fare in 2018. Metro’s fare policies support equitable access to transit, our revenue targets and regional coordination. Periodic review of fares is a regular part of Metro’s budget planning process.
