Dear Friends,
I'm back home in the Second District for the month of August, and I'll be traveling throughout the District to share how the Big, Ugly Law will affect your healthcare and food assistance. I always look forward to meeting with everyone and taking your concerns, questions, and stories back to DC.
I am also looking abroad to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu refuses to allow aid to reach Palestinians. I support a ceasefire and two-state solution with a secure Israel and a self-determined Palestinian state. You can read my full statement here.
Marking 60 years of Medicaid Amid Historic Cuts
_2.png)
This week, I stood alongside fellow Members of Congress from Illinois, Citizen Action/Illinois and healthcare advocates to oppose Republican cuts to Medicaid. We should be celebrating Medicaid’s accomplishments over the last 60 years. Instead, we are saving it from President Trump’s cruel $1 trillion cuts.
I believe in healthcare for all – not simply the wealthy few. Over 15 million people nationwide, and 38,000 in the Second District, will lose healthcare due to the Big, Ugly, Law. I will continue to fight for your right to healthcare and refuse to allow a bully like President Trump to sacrifice your healthcare to benefit billionaires.
Protect the Environmental Protection Agency
The Environmental Protection Agency’s “Endangerment Finding” has long been the foundation and legal underpinning for the EPA’s responsibility to mitigate the effects of climate pollution. President Trump wants to overturn that key finding to benefit Big Polluters, rendering the EPA helpless to protect our health and environment.
I spoke with environmental advocates to speak out against President Trump and his special interests. I want my grandsons and their generation to inherit a world with clean air to breathe and clear waters to swim in.
Apply for the Congressional Youth Cabinet
The Congressional Youth Cabinet, a program I began in 2019, encourages high school students to become civically engaged and introduces them to youth-related policies that impact their community. This opportunity provides unique insight into the legislative process and how Congress functions.
The CYC consists of monthly meetings, participation in community events, lectures with guest speakers, and internal policy discussions. If selected, this is a one-year appointment. You can learn more and apply here by September 5.
If you would like to share your thoughts with me, feel free to visit my website. You can also keep in touch through Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and BlueSky.
Sincerely,
Robin L. Kelly Member of Congress
