Dear John,

AUL has long advocated for policies that make parenthood more attainable and financially feasible. In 2023, AUL partnered with Democrats for Life to advance the idea of eliminating out-of-pocket costs for childbirth, turning a widely discussed concept into a workable policy. Now, with the bipartisan Supporting Healthy Moms and Babies Act, the vision of making birth free is one step closer to reality.   Contact your Members of Congress now and urge them to support and pass this Act.

SHMB, introduced by Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Chair of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus, and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), aims to ensure that families with private health insurance plans incur zero out-of-pocket costs for pregnancy, childbirth, prenatal, and post-partum healthcare.

With everyday costs soaring, the birth rate in the United States has reached historic lows. Many couples feel they cannot afford to have children, especially given the exorbitant expenses associated with childbirth and raising a family. For too many couples, the financial challenges have resulted in the tragic practice of abortion that diminishes our families, communities, and future.

Now more than ever, policies are needed to strengthen the American family and to promote positive and life-affirming support for moms, dads, and babies. Congress can take this important step by exempting all prenatal and birth-related expenses from deductibles and co-pays allowing for zero out-of-pocket costs for families.

Life is a precious gift and by eliminating financial barriers to childbirth, we send a resounding message of hope and support to mothers, encouraging them to choose life and build a bright future for their children.
