We’ve seen what happens in states that have enacted permitless carry laws: once guns are easily accessible, everyday disagreements turn deadly. Arizona experienced a 44% increase in aggravated assaults committed with a firearm in the six years after enacting permitless carry in 2010.
Pennsylvania is among many states that require gun owners to meet basic eligibility standards if they want to carry a hidden gun in public. Other states have more stringent requirements, including requiring applicants to undergo firearms safety training.
Under existing law, law enforcement officers can run more extensive background checks and evaluate the character and reputation of concealed carry applicants. This can include looking at whether an applicant is involved in potential criminal activity, whether they have a disqualifying felony on the record, and whether they have other concerning indicators such as a history of domestic violence or substance abuse.
Send a message to your state representative now telling them to oppose permitless carry in PA. |
