#Fight4HER's Repro Rundown
Hello friend,
For the past six months, the Trump administration has been metaphorically lighting everything on fire—whole government agencies, civil and human rights, and any and all environmental protections. Now, they are planning to literally burn something precious: $9.7 million worth of contraceptive supplies already purchased with US taxpayer dollars, which are currently sitting unused in a warehouse in Belgium. Like everything this administration does, this plan is cruel and wasteful, and displays their absolute incompetence.
Being able to control whether and when to have children is a fundamental human right. Contraceptives are the safest, best, and most affordable tool we have for managing our reproductive lives; their return on investment is incredibly high, resulting in fewer unintended pregnancies, fewer maternal and infant deaths, and fewer pregnancy- and birth-related injuries.
The fact that Trump and his deranged enablers would rather light these invaluable medical supplies on fire than get them into the hands of vulnerable people who need them is perhaps the most despicable act in a playbook of despicable acts.
The good news is that a lot of good people are working to prevent this entirely preventable tragedy. The Saving Lives and Taxpayer Dollars Act has been introduced in both chambers of Congress, with champion lawmakers Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Brian Schatz and Representatives Gregory Meeks, Grace Meng, and Lois Frankel sounding the alarm on the dire need to save this lifesaving birth control.
In addition to US lawmakers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Belgium is exploring all options to prevent this destruction, and lawmakers in France, where the supplies will be brought for incineration, are strongly lobbying President Macron to prevent France from being part of this sinister and senseless waste.
The Trump administration has been risking the health and lives of people all around the world all year long. We can’t let them risk the health and well-being of so many more people who deserve to be healthy, safe, and in control of their own lives.
Feeling angry about this terrible waste of lifesaving contraceptives? Take action today and ask your senators and representatives to co-sponsor the Saving Lives and Taxpayer Dollars Act.
