John,

I still remember when this campaign manager I worked with years ago introduced me to the phrase “don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining" when I tried to deflect on some not-so-impressive numbers in my weekly report. Anyway, it really stuck with me and today I want to be completely transparent about Vote From Home 2020's plan.

Our goal is to send mail-in ballot applications to dual-risk voters and expand vote-by-mail ahead of the November election so we can protect our health and defeat Donald Trump. You’ve probably heard our usual pitch -- donate $25 and we’ll send mail-in ballot applications to 20 of these voters in the swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

But let’s peel back the curtain on that a bit and see what it means. Obviously, we have more costs than just our mail-in ballot applications -- we’re like any organization and we need to pay our staff, insurance, website hosting fees, and access to our organizing tools like the voter file. However, getting Americans signed up to vote-by-mail is the heart of who we are and that’s what we’re building our grassroots movement to do, so that is what we are relying on each of you to fund. We cover our other costs from our partnerships and major gifts donations, but every grassroots contribution goes to our mail program to fund these applications and ensure the voters at greatest risk from COVID-19 will be able to vote safely from home this fall.

So when we’re asking you for your hard-earned money here, you know what you're funding. And our goals for this end-of-quarter fundraising blitz are all based on that. We have identified approximately 2.5 million dual-risk voters, and our goal is to reach out to roughly 550,000 of them. That gives us a total mail cost of just over $682,000, and that is what all our asks of $25 for 20 ballots would total up to by the end.

Now, we also know that we need to get these applications out ASAP to avoid the last-minute chaos we’ve seen in Wisconsin, Georgia, and other states. So we are going to send out the applications over the summer, which means that we’ll need to finish cutting our checks to our union printer by Labor Day.

I believe that we can do this, but we need your help, and that is why we are asking you again for a contribution to help us with our vital work. We know vote-by-mail is the key to this election, and we have a plan to make it happen, but we can’t get there without your grassroots donations, so please chip in $10, $25, or whatever you can today.

Like we said earlier this week, there is a tidal wave of voter suppression on the horizon if we don’t expand vote-by-mail this year, and unless we raise our money and get organized now, Trump and his cronies are going to drown us in a flood of shady tactics in the fall.

So let’s all step up together and make this happen. We can’t do it without you.

Best,

Ben Tyson

------------
Vote From Home 2020 is a grassroots movement that's making vote by mail more accessible. With a $25 donation, we'll send vote by mail applications to 20 voters. COVID-19 has brought America to a halt, and with it almost all in-person voter mobilization efforts. While volunteers can’t get on buses to swing states or go door-to-door right now, there is a huge opportunity for progressives, especially in solidly blue states, to get out the vote where it counts. By sending vote by mail ballots to targeted states and following up with text and calls to voters, we can ensure the 2020 general election is safe and accessible. Please forward this email if you know someone who may be interested. Our average gift is just under $25 so consider donating that today to support voting rights.
