Email from Rep. Nehls Rep. Troy E. Nehls Presents Purple Heart to WWI Veteran's Daughter   Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington, D.C. Aviation Chairman Troy E. Nehls Attends EAA AirVenture 2025 Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) AirVenture 2025 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. EAA’s AirVenture is a week-long event that attracts aviation enthusiasts from all over the world. More than 700,000 people attended this year’s event. This event highlights the general aviation community, featuring airshows, workshops, displays of aircraft, and more. While at AirVenture, I had the opportunity to tour the control tower at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, which is the world’s busiest tower during the annual EAA AirVenture air show, and monitors at least 3,000 aircraft movements per day during the week-long event. I also had the opportunity to meet with newly confirmed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator, Bryan Bedford, and my good friend and colleague, Congressman Sam Graves, who serves as the Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. While at AirVenture, I also participated in a policy update and conversation hosted by Chairman Graves, alongside aviation industry stakeholders including the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Vertical Aviation International (VAI), the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), and the FAA. We discussed the implementation of the bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, which provides funding for the FAA for five years and enhances aviation safety, taking steps to modernize our national airspace system, and supports workforce development. As Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, I discussed the work the subcommittee is doing to support the Trump Administration’s plans to modernize our air traffic control (ATC) system and the national airspace system. One great feature of EAA’s AirVenture is the events that are catered to the children of our nation. Industry stakeholders, including NATCA, the FAA, GAMA, and Raytheon, all set up booths and events showcasing the next generation of aviation with hands-on learning experiences. It’s no secret we have a glaring shortage of aviation professionals, and I’m glad the aviation industry is doing everything it can to encourage and inspire America’s youth to be a part of the crucial industry that keeps America moving. I had a fantastic week in Oshkosh, meeting with industry and governmental stakeholders, discussing the current and future state of general aviation. I know the future of American aviation is bright. This Week in Texas' 22nd District Rep. Troy E. Nehls Presents Purple Heart to WWI Veteran's Daughter I had the honor of presenting a Purple Heart to Ms. Catherine Sanders, the daughter of Private First Class W. Pegoda. Private First Class Pegoda was wounded in battle on October 10, 1918, while deployed to France during World War I. Over 100 years later, Private First Class Pegoda was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously on June 30, 2025, by the President of the United States of America. The Purple Heart is the oldest military award still presented to members of the United States military. It was initially established by General George Washington in 1782 as the “Badge of Military Merit”, which was renamed to the Purple Heart in 1932 by the US Army Chief of Staff, Douglas MacArthur. I'm grateful for Private First Class Pegoda's service to our country. May God bless our nation's servicemembers and Veterans! Fall Internship Opportunity with Congressman Troy E. Resources for Hurricane Season Being well-prepared for hurricanes and other natural disasters is crucial to protecting your family and minimizing disruption to daily life. Federal resources, such as those provided by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Ready.gov, offer valuable guidance, including emergency alerts, disaster planning tools, and response checklists tailored to individual and family needs. As hurricane season approaches, staying proactive can make a significant difference. Monitor trusted sources like the National Hurricane Center for real-time updates and establish a comprehensive emergency plan that covers evacuation routes, family communication, and essential supplies. It’s also wise to prepare your home by securing outdoor items, reinforcing windows and doors, and reviewing your insurance policies—especially for those in coastal or flood-prone areas. For further assistance, FEMA’s Resource Library for Individual Assistance provides clear information on disaster support services, how assistance works, and what steps to take after applying. If you’ve already submitted a claim, visit I Applied for Assistance. What's Next? on FEMA.gov for guidance on next steps. Be sure to check out my website for further local and state resources on how to prepare for a natural disaster. If you have any questions or need support, please contact Congressman Nehls’ Fulshear District Office at (346) 662-6600. Our office is here to assist you throughout this hurricane season.
