Donald Trump knows the 2026 midterm elections will be a pivotal moment for our country, and he knows that right now, his party is staring down an epic rebuke from voters. That’s why he’s demanding mid-decade map redraws in a handful of key states Republicans control — it’s a craven attempt to cheat their way into holding on to power in Congress. In Texas, Trump outright told the press that he wants to see state lawmakers pass an even more gerrymandered map where “we pick up five seats.” — just this week, Republicans unveiled a map designed to do exactly that. And now, there are reports that the White House is pressuring Missouri to follow suit and redraw its map to help Republicans potentially win seven of its eight congressional districts. That’s right: Instead of trying to win elections fairly, Trump wants to rig the rules of the game and take power away from voters. The question now is whether these state-level Republicans will rubber stamp these blatant power grabs.
Win or lose in Texas, we know that this is the other side’s playbook for the months ahead: Rig the rules of the game. That’s why it’s so crucial that we hold the people responsible for this power grab accountable. We won’t stand by and let voters be silenced. And we won’t let anyone get away with trying. Thank you so much for being with us in this fight. Team NDRC
