Hello John ,
Alma here with Stewardship Utah. Some of you might know me from the Rural Utah Project days, or maybe we’ve met at a tabling event; regardless, I’m the woman behind many of these emails, our social media, and much of our printed materials. While my time as the communications manager has been full of incredible memories, growth, and produced some of my most creative works, I am ecstatic to move into a new position - Public Lands Policy Associate!
For the past year, I have been working on public lands issues as best I can within my role as communications manager. From partnering with colleagues to help plan and develop our Land We Share public lands summit [[link removed]] (only 4 more days of early bird pricing!), to working in collaboration with other organizations across the state, I’ve helped lift our public lands work off the ground.

Public lands in Utah are fraught with tension from those striving to develop and extract these lands, those working to protect and conserve these lands, and everyone else caught up in the middle. We’re planning to tackle these issues from all angles, working with local leaders and up through all levels of government, to protect public lands for future generations.
My history with land advocacy started well before I moved to Utah, although Utah was the catalyst. Like many visitors to this beautiful state, I was enamored with the cliffs, valleys, and riverways meandering across southern Utah. Images of redrock, globemallow, and literal shoes filled with red sand flew with me from Utah to Georgia (my home) over five years. During that time, I pursued a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and filled my time volunteering with land advocacy organizations throughout Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama. While land access in the Southeast is certainly different from out West, my passion for education, community, access, protection, and conservation remains the same. Humans and wildlife need these lands to thrive. Utah needs these places to thrive. America needs these places to thrive.

I’m excited to step into this new role and look forward to working with all of you to protect wild spaces in Utah. Don’t worry, though, our new communications person is pretty incredible, and I’m confident they will see Stewardship Utah’s communications to their fullest potential (and we’ll still have memes if you’re a fan of our social media content).
I look forward to working with you, our partners, and the team at Stewardship Utah to create a Utah that reflects the love we all have for our wild spaces.
Onwards,
