We’re thrilled to share our brand-new Out for America report [[link removed]] , the most comprehensive annual analysis of out LGBTQ+ elected officials in the United States. This year’s report offers a deep dive into who is serving, where they serve, and how representation is growing across every level of government.
Thanks to groundbreaking victories across the country (including many by Victory Institute trainees and alumni) the number of out LGBTQ+ elected officials has increased by 2.4%, with a record-breaking 1,334 leaders currently in office [[link removed]] .

Houston Candidate & Campaign Training Recap
Last month, LGBTQ+ Victory Institute brought our Candidate & Campaign Training 101 to Houston, and the energy was electric [[link removed]] ! Dozens of LGBTQ+ leaders and aspiring changemakers joined us for a full day of hands-on training, learning the skills they need to run and win. An Update on Alligator Alcatraz
The Victory Empowerment Fellows participate in at least two virtual convenings between their in-person engagements at the CCT and the International LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference. On July 28th, the fellows had their first convening, which featured Florida State Senators Guillermo Smith [[link removed]] and Jones, and Florida State Representative Michele Rayner [[link removed]] . The Florida lawmakers focused on legislating within an anti-equality majority and their unannounced visit to Alligator Alcatraz [[link removed]] .
Senator Jones spoke to MSNBC [[link removed]] about the visit and their continued efforts stop the abusive conditions of the detention center [[link removed]] .
Legislative Firsts: Big Wins for McBride and Carroll
Two LGBTQ+ elected officials just celebrated major legislative wins—each passing their very first bills! In the House, Rep. Sarah McBride’s Equal Opportunity for All Investors Act, which she co-sponsored with a bipartisan coalition, passed the House and now heads to the Senate [[link removed]] . The bill opens new doors for everyday Americans to become accredited investors by creating an exam-based pathway, challenging outdated financial criteria that have long excluded working people [[link removed]] .
And in Pennsylvania, State Rep. Andre D. Carroll’s bill (HB1646) passed the House, reforming the state’s Board of Barber Examiners to better support barbershop small businesses through improved licensing and application processes [[link removed]] .
