Fellow Republicans,
Illinois families are staring down an opportunity that could redefine economic growth, middle-class stability, and retirement security: the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB).
Across our state, families are feeling the pinch—rising costs, stagnant wages, and uncertainty about the future. But according to the Council of Economic Advisers, the OBBB delivers a direct and measurable benefit to working Illinoisans. Over the next four years, wages are projected to rise between $4,000 and $7,200. For a typical family with two children, that translates to an increase in take-home pay of up to $11,000. That’s not just a number—that’s groceries, school supplies, and mortgage payments.
The bill also tackles tax burdens that disproportionately impact our workforce and seniors. About 5% of Illinois workers—those in service industry jobs—would benefit from the elimination of taxes on tips. Roughly 2 million seniors would no longer pay taxes on Social Security income. And overtime work? Nearly two-thirds of Illinois workers are in jobs eligible for it. OBBB makes sure that putting in extra hours actually pays off—tax-free.
Small businesses aren’t left out. Around 198,000 firms in Illinois—41% of all firms—could benefit from the continuation of the passthrough deduction. Manufacturers, who represent 10% of the state's employment, would see renewed strength through targeted support. And Opportunity Zones—once a temporary boost—would become a permanent engine of job creation and affordable housing. Already, these zones have created 44,000 jobs and 13,000 housing units in Illinois since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
The bottom line is this: OBBB protects 252,000 jobs and puts more money in more pockets. For workers, seniors, business owners, and communities across our state, this is more than policy—it’s a lifeline.
Illinois can’t afford to wait. For more information and weekly updates from the White House, visit www.whitehouse.gov.
