Friend, 

As our cities, states, and country navigate significant conversations on Black Lives Matter and how to rebuild our economy stunted by COVID-19, it is crucial that leaders at every level of government step up and fight for racial justice.

While many of these conversations are happening at the local level over police budgets and reforms, there is a lot the federal government can also do to make sure that Black voices are heard and Black lives are valued in our laws and institutions.

Developed in conversation with Black leaders in San Diego, yesterday, I released a new policy plan to prioritize racial justice at the federal level that includes four pillars of change: 

• Truth and Reconciliation

• Addressing the Broader Economic and Social Context of Racism

• Creating and Funding Alternatives to Policing

• Giving Power Back to Our Communities

We need to make racial justice a priority at every level of government, and I am so grateful to the community leaders who worked with me to develop this plan for change at the federal level. 

We need to stand up, all of us together, to make it clear that Black Lives Matter -- in our communities, our laws, and our institutions. I hope you’ll take some time to read the policy plan and share your thoughts by responding to this email.
