Good morning,
I hope you are doing well. I would like to update you on a few things that have happened here at the Capitol since last week. We also have a few fun events coming up in the community that I am happy to share with you!
Letter to Secretary of State Steve Simon
A few of my GOP colleagues wrote a letter to Secretary of State Steve Simon this week, urging him to cooperate with a federal request for Minnesota’s voter registration data. The letter states that the Department of Justice is asking for information that Minnesota already shares under federal law, and that Simon’s refusal raises questions about transparency and election integrity. We just want to make sure elections are fair and that state officials follow the law, especially after some voting/election scandals in Minnesota last cycle.
If we hear back, I will let you know.
Man in Senate Chamber After Hours
As you may have heard, a male experiencing a mental health crisis was found in the Senate chamber after hours. He was brought to the hospital for evaluation and later released. This man returned to the Capitol grounds two more times that night/early morning before being arrested and taken into custody by police. In times like these, where security is a must, I am concerned by the procedure that was followed that night which allowed this man back out into the public after he caused a disturbance inside the Capitol well after hours. I am glad that they eventually apprehended him, but always hope for a swift and just police response.
