Immigrant Families Are Facing Multiple Crises— Here's How We're Fighting Back

Dear John,

We are deeply grateful for your continued support. Your solidarity has helped sustain our efforts and remain steadfast during some of the most challenging periods immigrant and refugee communities have endured in recent years

At present, the threats confronting immigrant communities are rapidly escalating. Across the country, individuals are being detained, deported, and, in some cases, transferred to detention facilities beyond U.S. borders. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, along with National Guard troops, are appearing—often without notice—at courthouses, shelters, workplaces, and private residences. People are being apprehended in public spaces, families are being forcibly separated, and organizations engaged in long-standing human rights advocacy are increasingly being targeted.

The recent enactment of President Donald Trump’s sweeping “Big Beautiful Bill” represents the largest appropriation for immigration enforcement in U.S. history. This legislation has dramatically expanded the authority, capacity, and surveillance capabilities of federal agencies. With unprecedented allocations of funding and personnel, it is poised to intensify enforcement efforts nationwide—impacting communities both along the border and deep into the interior. The implications are profound: widespread raids, fractured families, and the systematic erosion of fundamental civil and human rights.

At the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (NNIRR), we are responding with determination and resolve—not fear.

Because of supporters like you, we are actively engaged in:

  • Assisting families and community members in developing emergency plans in case a loved one is detained;
  • Training volunteers in faith and community spaces to observe and respond rapidly to ICE activity;
  • Building networks of legal, mental health, and community-based care so that no one faces deportation alone;
  • Collaborating with attorneys to ensure families have access to legal representation and accurate information about their rights;
  • Strengthening national alliances with other migrant justice organizations to enhance immigrant defense.

However, the demand for our work is growing—and we need your help to meet it. We are asking you to consider making an additional contribution to support and expand our efforts.

Your ongoing support has already made a significant impact. Increasing your commitment will allow us to:

  • Train more grassroots leaders to monitor ICE activity and document civil rights violations;
  • Scale up our rapid response capacity, ensuring broader access to legal aid, emotional support, and critical material resources;
  • Counter misinformation by amplifying the voices and experiences of immigrant communities and defenders of constitutional and human rights.

While the tactics we are confronting are not new, their scope and severity are reaching unprecedented levels. With your continued partnership, we can remain vigilant and mobilized in defense of our communities.

Thank you for standing with us and being an essential part of this movement.

In solidarity,

National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights Staff & Board.

P.S. If you can, please give today. Every dollar helps us stay ready to respond—and helps protect people who are most in danger right now

Human Rights Monitoring Resources

We worked in collaboration with our beloved community artist, Favianna, to develop this toolkit. It’s designed to help people monitor and document law enforcement abuses in their communities and raise awareness about their rights.
