Drive for Democracy: Help Needed

Lead Driver for Sunday, August 10th

On Sunday, August 10, communities across California’s 5th Congressional District will come together for the Drive for Democracy, which will be the largest political mobilization against Tom McClintock that has occurred within his district. It will also be the largest rally ever held in Mariposa County history.

Democratic Central Committees and Indivisible groups from El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne, and Mariposa counties have organized the event, and citizens and organizations from Fresno, Madera and Stanislaus counties are now joining the effort. The event will feature a rolling motorcade with meetup locations along Highway 49, culminating in a rally in Mariposa.

This event will start in Placerville at the Mosquito Rd. Park and Ride. We are currently looking for someone to be the LEAD DRIVER and tow a rented Uhaul 12' open trailer from Placerville to the final rally point in Mariposa. This Lead Driver needs a vehicle with towing capability. EDC Dems will provide the decorated trailer.

Complete driving directions will be provided for the route as the Lead Driver will go through the towns of Jackson, Angels Camp, Sonora and finally Mariposa. In addition, overnight accommodations have been secured in a donated guest house. Note: We do suggest our Lead Driver have a traveling companion to help navigate and deal with communications (specifically notifying the rally sites of anticipated arrival times). You will not stop at each town, rather, caravanners will fall in line with your train.

Join Us and Drive for Democracy!

Location: Placerville Station Mosquito Rd Park & Ride Lot, 2984 Mosquito Rd

Join the motorcade on Hwy 49 starting in Placerville heading south with Rally stops in Jackson, Angels Camp, and Sonora, ending with a celebration and Rally in Mariposa.

Decorate your vehicle and drive all or any part of the route you choose. Or just come to one of the rally points as scheduled to cheer on the convoy to celebrate and defend democracy with your signs and flags.

We ask you register for your STARTING location. Additionally, please register in MARIPOSA ONLY IF you plan to attend the final rally at the end of the drive.

Organized by the County Democratic Party Central Committees and/or Indivisible and allied groups in El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties - all part of the 5th Congressional District and the 4th California State Senate District up for election in 2026.
