It has been another busy month here at the Centre, as we launched a new resource for our Mentally Healthier Councils Network to celebrate and support the work local councils are doing to boost mental health in their communities.
We also released a joint statement with the Prison Advice and Care Trust, calling for investment in better mental health support for people in the criminal justice system.
Following the UK Supreme Court ruling on how a person’s sex is defined under the 2010 Equality Act, we’ve raised our concerns about the serious implications for the mental health of trans and non-binary people resulting from both the ruling and the updated code of practice.
The Government's ten-year health plan was released in early July. Despite some positive proposals to improve care, we are disappointed that it falls short of the vision and commitment that is much needed to transform the nation's mental health. With the latest data confirming that the nation’s mental health has got significantly poorer over the last decade, we need bold action to turn this around.
