Annual Integrated Economic Survey Releases First Set of Data [ [link removed] ]

The U.S. Census Bureau today released preliminary estimates from the Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES) [ [link removed] ], which provides key measures of economic activity, including the only comprehensive national and subnational data on business revenues, expenses and assets on an annual basis.

The AIES is one of the Census Bureau’s newest surveys, designed to replace and integrate seven different annual business surveys into a single survey. AIES data can be used to track economic trends, assess industry performance, support policy development, and inform economic planning, resource allocation, and market research.

Today’s estimates, based on 2023 data, are available at the national, regional and divisional levels for select two- and three-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) industries.

The preliminary estimates included in today’s release are scheduled to be replaced in the fall with final estimates that include expanded industry detail, additional statistics, and more detailed geographic data for select sectors.

BTOS [ [link removed] ]

Also today, the Census Bureau released new data products from the Business Trends and Outlook Survey (BTOS) [ [link removed] ], a survey that measures business conditions and projections on an ongoing basis. The BTOS includes data for multiunit/multilocation businesses. BTOS will continue to collect data complementary to key items found on other economic surveys, such as revenues, employees, hours, and inventories.

BTOS data are representative of all employer businesses in the U.S. economy, excluding farms. BTOS provides insight into the state of the economy by providing continuous, timely data for key economic measures every two weeks. By providing continuous data with geographic and subsector detail, BTOS captures the impact of events like natural disasters and economic crises and assists in monitoring recovery efforts.
