We are sounding the alarm:

The profound crisis in Gaza is leading to dire birth outcomes for pregnant women and their babies. Thousands are on the brink of famine, and without proper aid or healthcare infrastructure, nothing will change for women and girls in Gaza if we do not act now.

UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, and our partners on the ground are ready to deliver comprehensive support and the resources communities in Gaza need to survive. Please rush a donation right now to deliver lifesaving aid to those who need it most: [[link removed]?]

“The scale of suffering for new mothers and their babies in Gaza is beyond comprehension,” said Laila Baker , Regional Director for the Arab States at UNFPA.

Newborns share cots and incubators in the Incubator Care Unit at Al-Helal Al-Emirati Maternity Hospital, Rafah, Gaza.

“Every mother and child deserves the right to a safe birth and a healthy start to life,” she told us. “What we are witnessing is a systematic denial of these fundamental rights, pushing an entire generation to the brink.”

New data for the first six months of 2025 confirms the dire conditions across Gaza:

* Sharp decline in birth rates: In just three years, the birth rate has declined by 41%.
* Newborn deaths: At least 20 newborns died within 24 hours of birth.
* Newborns at risk: 33% of babies — 5,560 — were born prematurely, underweight, or required intensive care.

Due to the crisis in Gaza, treatable complications have become preventable deaths. We cannot address these life-threatening conditions without the full-scale response this crisis demands.

That means working with our partners to distribute Dignity Kits, nutritional supplements, Mama Kits, and cash assistance so women and girls can meet their needs, reduce protection risks, and preserve their dignity during crises.

Your support can help sustain and expand this lifesaving work. Please, make a contribution to bring essential health and protection services for women, girls, and newborns struggling to survive in Gaza. [[link removed]?]

We condemn the violence in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel, and hope for a sustained humanitarian ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages by Hamas, and an end to the violence. The suffering must end and peace must prevail.

Thank you for being there for the most vulnerable living through the unimaginable.
