We’re facing a blatant power grab, demanded by Trump and now being pushed forward by extremists all too willing to bend to his will. 

Take one lawmaker who came out and said it bluntly: “I believe that you got to give President Trump the respect. If we can redraw Texas and it fits within all the confines of law and everything, well, then let's get ’er done.”

They’re not even trying to hide it. Extreme partisan forces who want an unearned advantage in the midterm elections next year are willing to cheat to get it.

The reality is Texas’s map was already deeply gerrymandered. Our affiliate has spent years helping voters challenge it in court for violating the Voting Rights Act. It makes you wonder how they think they’ll be able to get away with it.
