Trump’s cash advantage over Biden is shrinking

President Donald Trump still has a cash advantage over Democratic challenger Joe Biden, but his lead is far smaller than it was just a few months ago.

Biden raised $36 million in May compared to Trump’s $25 million. That’s the first time Biden outraised Trump in a single month this year. And Biden’s low-key, mostly virtual campaign spent just over $11 million while Trump blew through almost all of his monthly fundraising haul.

Trump’s once dominant fundraising advantage shrank last month even before protests erupted around the country over policing practices. The president’s unpopular response to those protests, and his handling of the COVID-19 epidemic, further boosted Biden’s bottom line.

Progressive candidates with PAC backing on the verge of victory in New York

Progressive candidates in New York, backed by millions in outside spending from emboldened progressive groups, appear likely to clinch several high-profile primary victories as mail-in ballots continue to be counted. In four districts, progressive candidates have either won their primaries or are poised to as mail-in ballots continue to come in. Along with Rep. Big money, controversy hit primary race to unseat Oklahoma’s lone Democrat

A number of candidates are vying for the chance to challenge Rep. Kendra Horn (D-Okla.) in November. And the money — much like the field of candidates — is plentiful. Of 9 candidates running in Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District Republican primary, five have raised more than half a million dollars. Republican state Sen. Stephanie Bice leads the group, having raised north of $1 million. Horn, though, has raised more than three times that of her nearest competitor.

Hickenlooper primary struggles the latest hiccup for Democratic establishment

Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper is the latest Democratic establishment-backed U.S. Senate hopeful to get a multi-million dollar boost from super PACs amid a heated primary battle. Reeling from ethics violations for accepting gifts as governor, Hickenlooper appears to be losing ground to former state House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, who is running as a progressive. That prompted Senate Majority PAC to spend nearly $1.5 million on ad buys supporting Hickenlooper over the last two weeks.
