Did you know there are Michigan elections on Tuesday, August 5? Across the state there are Mayor, City Council, and local millage requests on the ballot in your area. Find out if you have a local election here. Truth: Voting is a privilege. Michiganders have gotten sloppy with the caretaking of this precious gift. Truth: Good measures and efforts are in process to get us back on track. 1) Special thanks to our friends at PIME/MI Fair Elections. Please go to their site and tune into their quality information as they track and educate on rank choice voting (a horrible idea that violates our voting system), court cases, checks and balances being pursued in legislation. 2) There are several Michigan Ballot initiatives that you will be seeing folks trying to get signatures in the next 6 months! OF NOTE are two potential Ballot initiatives that will require proof of citizenship by showing birth certificate, passport, and/or other documents and will require photo-ID, or driver's license to vote absentee – this makes good sense! Please be sure to READ the petitions' 100 word summaries as you get asked to sign - NOT ALL of them are good for our state! 3) Make sure you explore the good news that was revealed last week: the Department of Justice (national level) is calling on MI Secretary of State Benson to turn over some documents, pronto. One more "good bye Woke agenda item"! 2) We join with Catholic Vote in applauding Secretary Kennedy and Commissioner Makary for their willingness to address health risks that have been ignored and jeopardizing women’s health. Over 11% of women and girls who take mifepristone face the risk of hemorrhage, sepsis, or infection. In Michigan alone there has been a 38% rise in complications since 2023. Sadly, the MDHHS is now no longer required to report abortions or complications.
