Hello friend,
Toby here, from the Ban the Bailiffs campaign. I’ve been bowled over by the response we’ve had since we launched our campaign to stop councils using bailiffs to collect council tax debt. Already over 2500 people like you have signed our petition, we’re really breaking ground!
But there’s more, we’ve been all over the news in the last few weeks getting the word out about how stressful it is to be visited by bailiffs and how they just add to people’s debts.
I’ve spoken about this on BBC Radio Leeds ([link removed]) , sharing the real cost of bailiffs. And it’s been covered in the I paper ([link removed]) , the Big Issue ([link removed]) , and twice by BBC News, here ([link removed]) and here ([link removed]) .
Click below to hear a clip of me on BBC Radio London, explaining why people in debt should no longer face harassment from bailiffs:

Thank you so much for taking action with us and supporting the campaign, we wouldn’t be able to get the word out without you!
Did you know that there are 10 million of us in the UK who are ‘overindebted’? This means being behind on bills, and having to borrow to just make ends meet. We live in the sixth richest country in the world, no one should be getting into debt to survive. Not here in the UK, or anywhere else.
Debt is pernicious, it can happen to anyone - one missed paycheck, sudden costs, an unexpected bill and our friends or family are struggling in ways they didn’t expect.
We say no more. No more bullying bailiffs, no more insidious debt that pushes families into poverty. Thank you for standing with us, if you haven’t already, please help keep up the pressure by signing the petition here ([link removed]) .
Thanks so much for your energy and enthusiasm in the fight against unjust debt and poverty. Together we will win!
In solidarity,
Toby, Richard, Eva and all at Debt Justice
