John, I ran for Congress two years ago on a promise to protect and expand health care -- and today, it is under threat again. I’m not going to let this happen. Since I’ve been elected, I’ve been fighting to expand our investment in health care, and I need you to stand strong in this fight with me.
Months prior to Election Day in 2018, the country had watched as Trump Republicans stood on the lawn of the White House and applauded the passing of legislation that threatened to strip healthcare from millions of Americans. That November, we fought back by electing Democrats to protect the health of our families and sending a clear message to a broken Washington D.C.: Congress needs to fight for everyday working Americans, not special interests. Today, the Trump administration and 18 Republican states will file briefs claiming that the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional, and the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case. That means there’s a chance that the Affordable Care Act could be overturned -- and it underscores the need to ensure that we have representatives ready to fight for our health care. John, while my Trump Republican opponent flaunts her desire to strip health care away from vulnerable Americans, I’m proud to be in Congress fighting for hardworking American families. So I’m again asking you to support my re-election campaign to continue the work we’ve been doing to protect and expand our health care. We need a representative who will fight for our most vulnerable communities by expanding protections for pre-existing conditions so health insurance companies can’t turn anyone away. We need a representative who knows that, in the middle of a pandemic, what we need to do is expand health care -- not gut it. My Trump Republican opponent Young Kim will not be that representative. She’s said so herself: She was open to repealing the Affordable Care Act at a time when the Republicans’ plan for health care would have gutted protections for pre-existing conditions. That plan would have rolled back Medicare instead of expanding it, and it would have made it harder for low-income children and their parents to get covered. Because this fight is personal for so many families in our district, it's personal for me -- and I vow today, just as I did two years ago and have every day since, to protect and expand access to health care for our most vulnerable families. But I can’t do that if I’m not reelected this November. So will you rush a donation $25 or whatever you can to ensure that we keep CA-39 blue? I can’t succeed unless grassroots Democrats like you give right now.
