Authoritarians like Donald Trump don’t wait for election years to create chaos so they can seize power — they obviously use this tactic 24/7/365. They cover up scandals by calling a BS recess. They make budget cuts in the middle of the night. They push unpopular policies while voters are distracted or discouraged.
