Don’t stay on the sidelines — DONATE NOW to fund our work to stop gerrymandering in Texas, Ohio, and anywhere else Republicans try to take power from voters >> [[link removed]]

Hey —

In Texas right now, we’re using every tool at our disposal to stop an existential threat to our democracy.

That’s not an exaggeration when you look at the facts: Texas Republicans have called a special legislative session to gerrymander congressional districts because the president explicitly demanded they redraw the map so “we pick up five seats.”

It doesn’t get much more blatantly anti-democracy than that. So here’s what we’re doing about it — and how your contribution today will help stop gerrymandering and power the movement for fair maps:

Our affiliate, the National Redistricting Action Fund, is funding digital ad campaigns and hosting events with our grassroots network to give Texans the tools they need to contact their legislators and sign up to testify against gerrymandering at public hearings.

We’re helping to grow the wave of grassroots opposition to a potential gerrymander — highlighted by hundreds of citizens showing up to the first public hearing about the redraw to testify against another gerrymander. As Rep. Joaquin Castro (TX-20) pointed out in his testimony, not a single congressional Republican showed up to support the redraw. Even Republicans responsible for past gerrymanders in Texas are warning that this is going too far.

Next month, President Obama and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi will join Attorney General Eric J. Holder to help NDRC and our affiliates marshal more resources for the fight ahead in Texas and other states where Republicans are looking to gerrymander.
Texans are rightly angry about these attacks on fair representation. And they are showing up to express their opposition to this cynical plot.

We’ll be right there alongside them. Donate now to fund our comprehensive efforts to stop Republican gerrymandering in Texas and across the country: [[link removed]]

Remember — democracy isn't a building, or some historical piece of paper. It's us. We are the ones who shape it. The NDRC has been fighting for fairness in Texas and across the country since our organization was founded eight years ago, and we won’t stop until we achieve it.

Make no mistake, we’ve got a long and tough fight ahead. But we are prepared and grateful to have your support.

Stay tuned for more updates,

— Biz
