I wish I could say I’m surprised, John. But when it comes to Donald Trump and his fossil fuel cronies, the hits just keep coming, and this is likely the worst, most harmful action yet.
Yesterday, Trump’s hand-picked EPA chief, Lee Zeldin, announced a plan to revoke what’s known as the endangerment finding. It’s a 2009 scientific declaration that greenhouse gases pose a dangerous threat to public health, and it has given the government legal authority to combat the climate crisis. It’s a cornerstone of any future climate action our country could take.
Zeldin is calling their proposal “the largest deregulatory action in the history of the United States.”
Without the endangerment finding, the EPA under any future president will lose its power to hold Big Polluters accountable or limit fossil fuel emissions.
And this comes just days after the Trump administration announced it’s eliminating the EPA’s scientific research arm and firing hundreds of the scientists who test our air and water, track toxic chemicals, and protect our health.
I know it’s exhausting, John. I feel it too. But every time they come for our future, we have to fight back. That means channeling our frustration into building political power in the places where it matters most. State by state, city by city, we can still elect climate leaders who will protect our communities from the damage at the federal level. Will you pitch in a few dollars before our critical fundraising deadline tomorrow to support JanePAC’s work to save our planet?
Look, Trump can dismantle the science on paper, but the climate crisis is already here. It’s in the rising death toll from heatwaves. It’s in the floods sweeping away entire neighborhoods. It’s in the wildfires that rage longer and burn hotter every year. No political stunt can erase what’s happening outside our windows.
If Trump wants to tear down every climate protection we’ve fought for, then we’ll build a firewall that he can't touch by electing climate champions up and down the ballot — from state legislatures to city councils, county boards, and attorneys general. Every election matters.
But we can’t do it without you, John. These elections don’t win themselves. Climate champions don’t get on the ballot without grassroots support to combat the fossil fuel industry’s billions.
So let me ask again: Will you pitch in before tomorrow’s deadline to help us hit our $30,000 goal and build the climate firewall we need to stop Trump and Big Oil in their tracks?
