Why we are 350: Scientists overwhelmingly agree that 350ppm CO2 is the upper limit to sustain life as humans have lived it. For more than 800,000 years atmospheric CO2 varied between roughly 180 to 280ppm ([link removed]) .

Our Earth passed 350ppm CO2 during 1988!
Mauna Loa Observatory ([link removed]) - We are now approaching 430ppm!
On many days we're up 1.6 to 2.5ppm from last year

Our Organization is in Transition
We Have An Opportunity!

Since 2013, 350.org Milwaukee ([link removed]) has been taking a lead in addressing the existential threat of global warming with local action. In addition to monthly educational and planning meetings and tabling at events, we were primary organizers of large local climate change demonstrations, rallies and marches. We sponsored many busloads of folks to attend national climate rallies and marches in D.C. and New York City.

We saw progress in raising public awareness. While progress often felt painfully slow, we saw movement in a positive direction.

However during the last six months we have seen an administration that is deliberately working hard to reverse and undermine all the climate and environmental progress made over the previous 50 plus years.

The critical issue of global warming increases in urgency. This work must continue and grow.

In response, the 350 Milwaukee Steering Committee has taken the view that, in addition to education, the most effective action to confront the new U.S. climate crisis direction is to change the political landscape. In discussions with members of national 350.org we learned this change is not out of alignment with their view.

As we transition, we need to add new blood to the steering committee to respond to the current environment. We invite you to join the 350 Milwaukee Steering Committee. Bring your ideas and your skillsets – join us now!
