John,

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the day in 1965 that President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Social Security Amendments into law — creating both Medicare and Medicaid, which have helped to protect the health and well-being of millions of Americans.

But 60 years later, Trump’s budget bill has outlined over $1 trillion in healthcare spending cuts over the next decade, which will result in 15 million people losing coverage by 2034.

In the days to come, organizing at the state and local level will be more critical than ever before to combat the harms of this disastrous budget bill. That’s why in addition to running campaigns to hold decision-makers accountable to our communities, Color Of Change is leading members through free trainings like our Good Trouble Organizing Series to equip them with the tools and skills they need to become agents for change.

There’s no time to lose. Will you make a contribution of $25 or more to our critical end-of-month fundraising goal to ensure we have the resources to help grow and sustain our nationwide movement?

When you support our organizing efforts, you’re supporting real-life members like Angela S. — a mother and small business owner who joined us in Washington to lobby against the passage of Trump’s budget bill:

“My relationship with Medicaid runs deep; I was born in 1965, the very year Medicaid was established by the signing of the Social Security Act, which included Title XIX to create this vital program alongside Medicare. God willing, Medicaid and I both turn 60 this year.

As a small business owner, I bear the full financial responsibility for my family's health insurance. There were times when the cost of health insurance was simply out of reach, and I was able to benefit from the Medicaid program. In this country, healthcare is one of the most costly expenses in a family's budget.

Unfortunately, my coverage was cut off once my income exceeded the maximum guidelines by just $3. When my coverage was cut off, I was without healthcare for myself for many years. During that time, if I became sick, my only option was to go to the emergency room. I could not keep up with my routine wellness checks or other medical needs until the passing of the Affordable Care Act, which also falls under the Medicaid program.

Cutting millions of people — especially children — off a program that we, the people, pay into for necessary and life-saving medical care and food assistance is not just unjust; it is entirely unjustifiable.

Let us stand together and fight for what is right — for our families, for our communities, and for the principles this country was built on.” — Angela S.

In every community across the country, there’s a neighborhood activist like Angela Surratt ready to be equipped with the tools they need to organize for themselves and their loved ones. Your contribution will help support online and on-the-ground efforts such as:

- Monthly National Squad Calls to discuss our latest campaign updates and how folks can deepen their involvement to protect our families and communities
- Free training programs like our Defend Black History School Board Training to teach folks how to respond to attacks on our education system at the local level, and our Storytelling Academy to ensure that COC members can harness the power of their own stories to drive change
- In-person events including local rallies and Lobby Days to empower communities and ensure that decisionmakers hear your stories and your voices. This year, we’ve organized over 30 events to empower our members and strengthen our movement.

Color Of Change doesn’t take any money from lobbyists or corporations, so we’re relying on grassroots donors like you — will you chip in $25 or more to help us reach our critical end-of-month fundraising goal?
